In a corridor, the sconce is doing a job rather than decorating: it lights the walking surface and marks the room doors without throwing glare into a guest's eyes. That is why slim vertical formats dominate hotel corridor work — the lit surface faces the wall, not the guest.
Alabaster or Brass — Which Reads Better?
Both are specified on hospitality work, for different reasons. The choice usually comes down to whether you want the light to glow or the metalwork to speak.
- Alabaster diffuses light through the stone, so the shade itself becomes the light source. It reads warm and soft, and hides the lamp inside — which is why it dominates corridors and guest rooms.
- Brass is the visible structure: backplates, arms, brackets and picture lights. Polished reads formal; antique and satin finishes hide handling marks and are the usual choice in high-traffic areas.
- Alabaster on brass combines both — the stone glows while the metalwork gives the fixture its line. This is the most common specification in our own collection.
Alabaster is a natural material, so shade tone varies slightly between pieces. Where several sconces sit in one sightline, order the whole run in a single production batch so the stones are matched rather than accumulated over time.
Naming the finish matters. "Brass" covers several processes — polished, antique, satin, bronze — that will not match beside each other on the same wall. Name the finish you want rather than the colour.

Samples ship in 10–15 days. Standard bulk production runs 20–45 days from drawing approval; a custom build runs 45–75 days.
